Good afternoon everybody. This and Commissioner Mccaughan, Acting Executive Director Cook, and all gathered here today. It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all here to the Garden College for our first Little Blue Hero graduation. I want to give a very warm welcome to each one of the Little Blue Heroes who have come to the Garden College today. My name is Brian Subgroup and I'm the Chief Superintendent in charge of the Garden College. And I'm really honored to be making this address to you here today. I have to let you in on a little secret, though. I'm not used to talking to heroes as young as those here today. We have all read about heroes in comics and watched them in movies. A lot of heroes wear capes, fly through the air, and have a superpower that helps them fight baddies. But I've learned over the years, you don't have to be famous or have a superpower to be a hero. The real heroes in life are ordinary people. Just like your mommy and daddy, the doctors, nurses, firefighters and garden, there are heroes all around us. Every day we meet people who do good deeds, who go above and beyond to make a positive difference in the lives of others. And it doesn't even matter how old they are. As you can see, we have children here, ranging in all ages, and the heroes that have come here today don't wear capes, don't have superpowers, but they are all very brave. The courageous children and are very worthy to be called Little Blue Heroes. We are so very proud to have you Little Blue Heroes here as part of our garage organization and we're delighted you could come here today and I asked that you all gave the Little Blue here as a big round of applause to show them how proud we are of them.

Switzerland launches today a massive wolf cull, aiming to eliminate up to 70% of its current wolf population. This decision goes against decades of efforts to restore nature and wildlife in Europe. In fact, it goes against Switzerland’s own commitment to protect fauna and flora, particularly endangered species, as part of the Bern Convention in 1981.Large predators like wolves are an essential part of their ecosystems. One example, they protect forests by preying on herbivores, keeping population under control. This allows for a richer forests and preserves all the other smaller species depending on such richness.Without wolves, or with a significantly reduced population, ecosystems are less balanced, forests are damaged and biodiversity is lost, not to mention the impact on climate. There is little scientific evidence that wolf culls help stabilising the population, and such drastic measure threatens the entire Western-Central Alps wolf population. This is an issue that goes well beyond the Swiss territory.Switzerland is often taken as example of direct democracy. This decision to eliminate entire packs is taken without public consultation. An open letter signed by 158 environmental and animal protection organisations from 37 countries was sent to Federal Counsellor Albert Rösti, with little results as far as we can see today.Living alongside wolves and other large predators is not easy, but it is certainly not impossible. Livestock predation can be avoided with fences and guardian dogs. There are communities around Europe and world coexisting with large predators, let’s learn from them. Wildlife is a resource, for nature, society and the economy. At the same time, people cannot be left alone in the adaptation to the return of large predators. Institutions play a key role, they are needed as a strong ally in rewilding and it’s social challenges. This is a very dangerous precedent in Europe. Many countries, including Belgium, are having similar discussions around the presence of wildlife. Hopefully, this will remain an isolated case.#Switzerland #wolves #rewilding #naturerestoration

DYK? - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is one of the nation’s largest federal outdoor recreation providers, managing nearly 257,000 facilities across 43 states. Visitors to these sites can enjoy recreational activities like fishing, boating, hiking, camping and hunting.Surprisingly, unlike National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service sites, local USACE site managers cannot retain revenue from fees collected onsite. In other words, fees collected at a given site do not necessarily support the operations and maintenance of that site. The Lake Access Keeping Economies Strong Act (LAKES Act) has been introduced in Congress to correct this. The LAKES Act would allow the USACE to retain 80% of recreation fees collected onsite and includes other benefits that should improve access to fishing opportunities and infrastructure like boat ramps and other facilities. Visit our #KeepAmericaFishing Action Alert and tell your Members of Congress to support the LAKES Act today! https://lnkd.in/equkWWKD

MidwayUSA, an Internet Retailer for Shooting, Hunting and the Outdoors, is as one of three recipients of the 2021 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. A recipient of the 2009, and 2015 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, MidwayUSA is one of only two organizations to earn the award for a third time since the first award cycle in 1988. I volunteered with Midway staff on the Missouri Excellence Award, the state level Baldridge award. As you might imagine MidwayUSA does many things effectively but what I’ve always found interesting is how they document (thousands) of processes that support serving their customers. In light of recent airline industry issues contributing to flight cancelations, along with food and drug recalls I wonder how many how companies spend the energy to document and continually improve processes impacting their internal and external customers?

Meet one of our alumni, Bill Smith!👉🏼Career Position:Strategic Marketing Manager for Helena Agri-Enterprises, LLC based in Memphis, Tennessee👉🏼Why AGS: None of my family had ever participated in Greek Life so I was really not that familiar with the culture or the process of rush. I was elected as a State FFA Officer and exposed to some guys in the house over the summer.I was honestly clueless about Greek Life but what I recognized at AGS was a bunch of likeminded men that had a passion for agriculture and were driven to be successful professionally. Becoming a member of AGS was like gaining a new family - brothers that held you accountable and supported you when in need.👉🏼Impact of fraternity on personal and professional development: Simply put, it was all about the preparation and connections. The AGS roots run deep in the agriculture industry and I have had the privilege to work with multiple alumni that span multiple generations. I am always amazed to see what alumni I will bump into at a convention, at the end of a turn row or in the media. 👉🏼Favorite fraternity event: Parties at the Cherry Hut with alumni and first ever Hurricane Party are certainly on top of the list but traveling to the Beta Chapter at the University of Missouri for a Husker vs. Mizzou game certainly made me realize that the Principles and Brotherhood of AGS reached was much further than Lincoln, Nebraska.👉🏼How the fraternity impacted him:Even today, I still reference the quote from Abraham Lincoln…”If I prepare, my time will come”. This line was drilled into us a freshman and I still live by these words. We should never stop preparing and learning as this investment will pay off at some point in your life.👉🏼Advice to current fraternity members:Embrace the experience and purposefully invest into the relationships with ALL actives and alumni. #agsunl #alphasig #alumnispotlight #alumni #careerdevelopment #personaldevelopment
